Visit Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is committed to being an inclusive destination where everyone belongs. Since 2016, the communities along our 60 miles of coastline have worked to create an autism- and sensory-friendly environment, welcoming thousands of visitors with autism and sensory processing disorders each year. In partnership with Champion Autism Network (CAN) and TravelAbility, Visit Myrtle Beach launched The Beach is for everyBODY: Sensory-Friendly Pledge in 2022, with more than 150 businesses pledging support or receiving CAN certification to provide a welcoming experience. The Autism Travel Card, offered by CAN, allows families to discreetly identify their needs, granting them access to special services at participating restaurants, hotels, and attractions. Recognizing that 87% of autism families do not travel, Myrtle Beach is committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring that all families can enjoy the transformative power of a family vacation.

Myrtle Beach International Airport enhances accessibility with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, offering a discreet way for travelers to signal they may need extra assistance. The airport also features a Quiet Room for families to decompress. Additionally, Visit Myrtle Beach introduced Splish, Splash, Squawk! Finding Joy in a Sensory-Friendly Vacation, a children’s book designed to highlight the joy of inclusive travel.

In late 2024, Visit Myrtle Beach in partnership with Peacock introduced Traveling the Spectrum, a six-episode miniseries that celebrates the belief that everyone deserves to experience the joy of travel. The series follows the journeys of three extraordinary families as they embrace the challenges and triumphs of traveling with a family member on the autism spectrum.

Through its unscripted and heartfelt storytelling , the show aims to inspire and empower families while fostering empathy and understanding. With a vast majority of families with a member on the spectrum currently not traveling but expressing they would if more autism-inclusive accommodations were available-this series sheds light on the transformative power of accessible travel.

Traveling the Spectrum encourages people of all abilities to discover the magic of family vacations and the profound connections they create.

Through these efforts, we continue to make The Beach a welcoming and accommodating destination for all.
